Overview

Coffea Academy is a professional online coffee education platform built for baristas, roasters, and coffee businesses across East Africa and beyond. The platform centralises structured, science-backed coffee education into one learning environment — reducing the friction of fragmented knowledge and raising the standard of coffee training in the region.

The platform is led by Felix Ouma, Kenya's 2025 National Barista Champion and WBC Milan competitor, who serves as Founder and Lead Instructor.

What I Built

A full-stack LMS (Learning Management System) designed and engineered end-to-end. The product covers seven coffee disciplines — roasting, cupping, grading, farming, barista skills, trading, and brewing — with a modular course architecture that scales as content grows.

Key features include:

• Course catalogue with structured learning paths
• 40+ interactive modules with progress tracking
• Certificate system tied to course completion
• Blog module with category management, SEO metadata, and a TipTap rich text editor with image upload support
• S3-based image upload pipeline with signed URL handling
• BullMQ-powered background job queue for media processing
• Community hub for student interaction
• Waitlist system for cohort-based course releases
• Full authentication via NextAuth
• API documentation with Swagger
• Dockerised deployment with CI/CD pipeline

My Role

Full-stack design and development — from system architecture and database schema through to frontend UI, API layer, DevOps, and content infrastructure. Ongoing maintenance and feature development.
